It required that you use the marquee tool plus feathering, you circled the area you wanted to blend and tapped at something until it faded away. I keep thinking this required the ctrl button and another button after making the selection or just some button in general. It didn't use gradients, it was nice and simple, and gave great results.
Does anyone know this technique? Could you explain it to me again if you do? I had photoshop 7 back then but now I have CS3 if this makes any difference.

For some random reason, my CS3 started lagging really badly a couple days ago. I didn't do anything different (ie: install more brushes or something).
It doesn't matter what I do, everything lags (whether it's effects, text, text resizing, brushing, erasing, duplicating layers, etc...basically EVERYTHING). It's really annoying since I can't really do anything. Everytime I want to see the changes, I have to minimize the image and maximize it again before it takes place.
I've tried everything I can think of..I've deleted temp files, defragmented, ran spyware scans, etc. I've also looked on Google and none of the suggestions help there.
I think it has something to do with my computer and not so much CS3 itself (maybe temp PS files hidden somewhere that I can't find?). I've tried deleting the folder and unzipping my original CS3 again but it's still the same (with the same settings...).
Is there anything I can do to fix this or reset my CS3?

I bought PSCS3 a few years ago, which is for a PC. I recently purchased a Mac and I was just wondering if there was any way I would be able to get the program to work with my new computer. Do you think it would work if I called the company and asked them to allow me to download a Mac version of it, or do I have to buy new PS software that is specifically designed for a Mac? Any advice would be muchly appreciated! :)

Ok, I am stumped. I cannot get my Transform tools to behave even when I'm working it via the inbuilt Help. The project is more complex then this, but here is a simplified proof of fail:
(I'm on a PC running CS2)
File/New/Preset 2x3 RGB color
Paint bucket black / Type tool white / "Foo", enter (it automatically creates Foo in a new layer)
Click Foo layer / Deselect all / Rectangle select Foo
Under Edit, Transform and Free Transform are greyed out. If I don't select anything, then some of the transforms are there, although Distort and Perspective are always greyed, and it's Distort I want to use.
Any idea what gives? Thanks for any help!

Current Mood:
complacent
I'm relatively new to this community - not new to my photoshop elements 5.0 program, but I've never done manipulations on it, and I figured I should try. Right now, I'm trying to master textures, but the problems I'm having are:
1.) All the files I'm downloading are Zipped folders. How do I "unzip" them?
2.) How do I move the texture files to photoshop so that they are readily usable?
Thank you for your help in advance! And sorry for sounding like such an idiot!

I'm tying to have a glow all around my image kind of like
this. I tried layer > blending options > outerglow and it didn't work at all. was also told by a friend to do select > load selection > modify > expand and then copy the layer and set it to overlay. Then your supposed go to the blending options to do outer glow, but that's where I run into a problem. This doesn't give me the nice softness that my example pic has, it's more like a white marshmallow blob.
Can anyone please tell me how to do this correctly in Photoshop? Or what options I need to be using to get that softness.
EDIT: Also does anyone know what spirally grunge brush that is at the bottom right corner?

I have photoshop CS on my Mac, and I've been running it for a couple of years with no complaints.
But today, I started my laptop up, opened Photoshop, and it asked me if I wanted to configure my settings. It's never done this before, as far as I remember.
Now I'm using it, there are a few differences in the interface, and there's no ruler guidelines on the side of the images.
That, and I'm trying to edit a camera phone photo, and when I try and add text, it fills the image with red, and won't type.
Would anyone have any idea what's going on? And how to fix it? If you could even tell me how to get the ruler guidelines back, I'm sure I can figure the rest out.
Thanks!

I have photoshop CS3 for PC and I use it a lot for basic things like adding borders and using premade actions for my photos.
Well, this one has stumped me and it just started happening. I am trying to create a border by extending the canvas but it's only extending on one side of the picture even though I have it achored in the middle. When trying to make an LJ userpic, this is what it ends up looking like:

That's a blank template but as you see, the border only runs along the botton and the side. Any help would be more than appreciated.
